Mr Yanni Hufnagel is the assistant basketball coach at the Harvard University. The team he is an assistant coach to is called Crimson – he started occupying the passion of assistant coach in 2009. He was born in Scarsdale in 1983 to a Jewish family. Mr Yanni Hufnagel received a Bachelor’s degree from the Cornell University and is currently based in Boston. Other than basketball, Mr Yanni Hufnagel’s favourite sport was lacrosse. He played it for the team of Penn State University before he transferred.
There are not many Jewish basketball players, and there are not many Jewish basketball coaches either. However, in 2013 Mr Yanni Hufnagel and Coach Josh Pastner of the University of Memphis were both cheering for their team. There had not been a Jewish coach showdown since Red Holzman and Red Auerbach.
In 2011, CBS Sports conducted a survey among more than a hundred coaches. Mr Yanni Hufnagel was voted by most of them as the assistant coach that will make the team better due to his knack for good recruits. He was also chosen by Coach Josh Pastner as the most relentless recruiter in the history of college basketball. Coach Josh Pastner even stated that Mr Yanni Hufnagel is a better recruiter than he is. The praise from his opponent is the bigger recognition in the world of sports.
Some of Mr Hufnagel’s career highlights are his receiving a recommendation and becoming an assistant coach at the Harvard University. Before that, he worked at Cornell, New Jersey Nets and a few other places. He received the recommendation from Mr Ryan Krueger who was his colleague in New Jersey. He connected Hufnagel with his previous boss Coach Jeff Capel. The interview was short, and Mr Hufnagal’s energy and passion for basketball coaching were too high to pass up, and he was quickly offered the position.
